About This Site
Hi!
This site was created by me, Jay Smith, the first cousin three times removed of Abe Hankins. He grew up with my great-grandmother Fannie after coming to Philadelphia, and lived for a short time with my grandmother when she was a child.
I created this website to continue to honor his legacy and keep him in the public memory, and also to honor the many contributions that Estelle played in his life and career.
Biographical material is from family sources, ancestry.com, and the Smithsonian Archives of American Art.
Photographs are from family and newspaper articles. Photos of artwork are from family and other locations on the internet where Abe’s work continues to be sold.
